Last week, the BTYFC community came together for an unforgettable evening filled with laughter and competition. The first-ever BTYFC Quiz night was a tremendous success, raising over £1,000 on the night! This event did more than just generate funds; it brought people together for a night of fun and camaraderie.
Let’s explore the highlights of the event, the fantastic individuals who made it possible, and why you should be eagerly counting down to the next quiz night!
The Venue
The venue was the BTFC Clubhouse which proved to be an excellent choice. It was spacious enough to accommodate over 60 enthusiastic attendees while still fostering an intimate atmosphere that encouraged interaction. With the bar just a few steps away, teams could enjoy a few beverages whilst engaging their brains ready for the quiz.
As participants filled the venue, the room buzzed with laughter and chatter, setting the perfect tone for the evening. The excitement in the air was palpable, and you could feel the anticipation growing as quiz teams began to gather.
Teams and Trivia
As the quizmaster took the stage, with the incomparable Ian Huke at the helm, the excitement reached new heights. Teams made up of friends and family huddled together, displaying a mix of excitement and nerves. The trivia questions covered a variety of topics, including music, sport, TV and even questions on Wiltshire — there truly was something for everyone!
As the rounds progressed, participants felt the thrill of competition. Players scrambled to jot down answers, their reactions ranging from cheers of joy to playful groans with each question. For instance, one popular question asked participants to name the colloquial term of people from Trowbridge, leading to spirited debates and laughter among teams. This competitive spirit truly brought everyone together.

Tie Break
As teams tried to second guess when to play their jokers for double points, the energy grew as each round passed. The table round kept everyone engaged with cryptic pictures causing much debate to identify the famous towns, cities and countries. With answer sheets flying around, the drinks flowing from the bar, more than six teams where in with a chance of the big prize heading into the final round.
As the organisers tallied the final scores and awarded the wooden spoon to the team that needs to reconsider their joker strategy, it was evident that the competition was tight at the top. In fact, two teams were tied with 71 points. Tie Break! Two representatives from the rival teams were chosen, and they approached the front of the stage to a crescendo of applause. Who could get the closest answer to the total length in miles of the river Avon? They both considered their bids, which ranged wildly, but the closest to the 85 mile answer were the Quiz Quiztophersons, with an answer of 125 miles. The winners had been crowned!

Raffle Extravaganza
One of the most exciting parts of the evening was the raffle! Local businesses and generous community members donated a fantastic range of prizes, including restaurant vouchers, bottles of booze, a cab tour of London and a 3 course Valentines meal prepared by a local chef! Every ticket sold contributed to the overall fundraising effort, with people flocking for tickets.
When the winning tickets were drawn, the cheers echoed through the venue. Winners expressed their feelings with equal measure of excitement and trepidation (boxing lesson!) , holding up their prizes for everyone to see. This aspect not only raised essential funds but also strengthened the ties between local businesses and our vibrant community. The evening showcased the spirit of togetherness that runs deep at BTYFC.
Looking Ahead
As the evening wrapped up, participants left with smiles, new friends, and some exciting raffle prizes. The buzz surrounding the quiz night continued long after it ended, with conversations quickly turning to plans for future events.
